The most important meal of the day

Porridge for Breakfast today :)

Yesterday at work I was talking to one of the beautiful ladies on my team about eating a breakfast that is of course healthy for you, gives you much needed energy to power through the morning and helps keep you full  so you don't want to snack on naughty things before lunch!

Our workplace has a great canteen/coffee type place downstairs - which is fantastic, however, there are a lot of sugary things to choose from.  Sugar will give you that bit of energy for a while, then you come crashing down, only to crave more sugar.  I tend to steer clear of snacking from the canteen when I can (but we all know that one day pops up occasionally, when you actually have some coins in your purse, and they have an amazing looking muffin just waiting for you to buy it!)

I recommended some oats to start the day!

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened soy milk
  • 1 tsp ground flax seeds
  • 1 level tsp of protein powder (vanilla flavour)
  • 1 tsp agave nectar
Oats are beneficial for a number of reasons.  They decrease your blood pressure, lower your blood cholesterol, lower your blood glucose, regulate inflammation and can assist with weight loss.

Oats are high in fiber and help keep you feeling fuller for longer by supplying you with low energy density food that supplies more bulk and fewer calories than some other breakfast choices.

Click here if you want to read more, or you can take my word for it!  Oats generally tie me over until around 10-10:30am when I plan to have my morning snack anyways.

Today's oats are bought to you by "Duckbert".  I pulled a muscle in my back yesterday so I threw "Duckbert" in the microwave for 2mins and now as I sit here typing, "Duckbert" is keeping my lower back nice and warm.....

Is is just me, or does anyone else feel the need to name pretty much everything they own ?
