Cabin fever and crazy sweats....

Sunday was a day of running errands for me.  I had to pop over to Muswell Hill to pick up a Birthday present along with some grocery items I forgot to get the other day.  I could probably have just stayed around home, but I was feeling a bit of cabin fever and thought a trip on the bus would do me some good.

On the way I dropped off a rather large bag of clothes to the Cancer Research charity store.  I feel like it is my good deed done any time I go through my wardrobe.  There is always someone out there that would love to be wearing my hand me downs!  Some of you might know that cancer has affected my family in many ways - so donating old clothes is just another great way of raising money for research.

I was a bit tired when I got home and before I knew it, any sign of daylight had disappeared and the night was well and truly setting in.  I decided to man up and go for a run.  Manning up meant I had to pull out the big guns!

How is this weather for a bit of alright? NOT!

Let me introduce to you - the big guns!  Yes, my old Famous Stars and Straps long socks.  Nike Capris tucked in of course ;)  Tres attractive!

I put a long sleeved shirt on under my Nike running shirt as well. I had no idea how this outfit would work on its maiden voyage out of the house on a cold night so I was a little bit nervous.  Luckily, it was a massive success and I felt warm and cosy my whole run!

I am pretty pleased that I managed to keep up a good pace tonight as well as yesterday's run.  I ran 2.3km up the road and turned around to come back again.  I only wanted to run 5K so as soon as the Nike lady told me it was time, I threw a U Turn and started off back home again.

When I got home my GPS told me that I was still a little off 5k so I had to run down the road and back a few times.  I tried to sprint these out as fast as possible and must have looked AWESOME to the two people having a ciggie out the front of Number 55.

#runnergirlproblems - what the hell is up, back sweat?!  It's like some kind of flower/devil/random ink blot test.  Don't ask.  I have no idea how I managed to create that.  I must be a true artist.  It just happened ;)

When I got home I completed the above ab workout.  You can find details on where to download the iPhone app here ;)

Dinner was a Sainsburys Be Good to Yourself Lamb Korma.  It was around 350 calories and was  a nice warm dinner (since I couldn't be bothered cooking anything!).

Nom nom nom! Trust me, it tasted a lot nicer than it looked.  Curry always has a way of doing that.

Dessert was an Options Mint Hot Chocolate with some low calorie whip on top.  Well.. I say some but I really mean half the can.

Have you ever sprayed whipped cream right into your mouth?  I haven't done it since I was a teenager - I forgot how awesome it was.

Hot Body on Me workout - BodyRock.Tv

Sunday after my run I decided to complete one of the new BodyRock.Tv workouts - Hot Body On Me Workout and BodyRocker Kyla - it was a killer in disguise!

My scores are below:

1. Speed Skater Squats with the Sandbag – 25/21/22
2. Reverse 1 Leg Pull up with the Dip station – 17/14/14
3. 3 Pike Presses and 5 Ski Jumps over the sandbag – 4.5/3.5/3.5
4. Ugi Star Planks – 16/15/17

Notes:  I don't have a sandbag so I used my 7.5kg dumbbell.  I do not have a dip station so I completed regular push ups with arm raises (sumo push ups).  I do not have an Ugi ball so I completed the star planks on my elbows (as per regular plank).

I hope that you guys out there also make up modifications for when you don't have a piece of equipment they are using?  I used to be able to complete reverse push ups under my table when I was living in Shoreditch, however the table at my new place is not nearly as sturdy and therefore I can not use it how I want to! haha.  Funny, I use my dining table more for exercise than I do for eating food.

Also, I really like how they are bringing in new hosts etc.  I still love Zuzana (100%) but I think its a nice way to involve the whole BodyRock community and keep the site looking fresh and new with the changes that Zuzana and Freddy have gone through with their personal lives.

Did you BodyRock this weekend?  Which workout did you complete?

A cold, cold morning.

Saturday morning I woke up on a mission.  I knew that I wanted to go running as this week has been somewhat busy for me.  I also posted the other day that I wanted to incorporate more running into my workouts again so what better way to finish the year, than to have a head start on next years goals?

I am not really a fan of setting goals for the new year.  If I want something done, I may as well give myself the best possible chance of getting it done and start it right now.

I started the morning with some oats (as per usual!).   The only difference was that I hadn't been able to get to the store since I ran out of soy milk and peanut butter.  Horror!  I had to make these oats with water and strawberry preserves.

It was no peanut butter and soy milk specialty, but it was actually a really good substitute!  I am surprised.

So this is how I would like to go out running right now.  Crop and capris.  NO WAY.  It was around 6degrees when I set out and my goodness.  I could even feel it in my chest.  It has been a long time since I went running in that kind of cold.

The first half of my run I basically set out to get to the destination at around 90% pace.  I was pretty pleased with myself as I felt that I could have kept going a little bit more, even at this faster than usual pace.

I turned around and came back home again and boy oh boy.  My chest felt tight.  It was freezing and I was really struggling to get a decent amount of air into my chest.  I was trying to force myself to breath through my nose and out through my mouth - it took all I had to do that!

The run back was intervals.  Jogging, running, walking and some hills (I went off the side of the road and back a few times).

I am officially adding some things to my Christmas wish list:
  • Thermal running tights
  • Thermal running jacket
  • Running gloves
  • Running headband to keep my ears warm
Right, now off to get ready to spend the day with Michelle.  We are shopping, dying my hair, eating and might even see a movie!

What is on your Christmas list? Are you like me and pretty much asking for loads of fitness and health related items?

Gig Night!

Last Saturday night while my sister was here, I had tickets to go and see one of my favorite bands of all time.

During the day Jill and I shopped, exercised, watched a movie and did all the awesome things that sisters (and mates!) usually do when they are together.  We knew that later on, my friend Michelle would be coming over for a light dinner before heading out to Kentish Town for the gig.

For a light snack in the afternoon we decided to try our hand at making some hummus.  I already had a can of chickpeas in the cupboard so all we needed was carrots and celery to dip in.

The recipe I used is here if you wanted to check it out.  I sprinkled some more paprika and cayenne pepper on top for presentation.

  • 1 can of chickpeas (drained, however if you want to omit the lemon juice, use some of the chickpea juice)
  • 1 teaspoon of black peppercorns
  • Paprika & cayenne pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons of tahini (you can buy at any Whole Foods or Tesco)
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Is is just me or does this make your mouth water as well?

Michelle asked me what I was wearing and I told her that we should be matching for the night.  Yep.  We did that on purpose!  We both rocked boots, tights, denim cut offs, a T shirt and leather jackets.  Snap! ;)

The gig was epic (as per usual).  I had the best time ever.  We sang, danced, jumped around, got hot and sweaty and enjoyed a few drinks.  I think I might possibly have been the oldest person there, but you know what, I don't care.  It was amazing and one of the best nights of the year ;)

What is your idea of a perfect Saturday night? Do you still dance around at gigs or are you more of a watcher from the sidelines?

What's on your workout playlist?

I get asked occasionally, what is on my workout playlist?  I listen to some pretty heavy awesome music most of the time however, we all know that working out and exercising requires something different.

I mean, I could totally run to some of my favorite bands whole albums, but I much prefer to rock out to the tunes below and basically have loads of fun ;)

Here is a pretty cool looking list of songs that are currently frequenting my iPhone workout playlist.

Super Bass - Nicki Minaj

Judas - Lady Gaga

Firework - Katy Perry

Bleeding - Ignite

Stockholm Syndrome - Blink 182

Boom, Blast and Ruin - Biffy Clyro

Cockney Thug - Caspa and Rusko

Coffin Text - Unwritten Law

Determined - Mudvayne (this is my power song!)

A favour house atlantic - Coheed & Cambria

Try Again - Aaliyah

Not the same - BodyJar (this song reminds me of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater II)

The Gold Song - Bouncing Souls

Toxic - Britney Spears

Jumpin, Jumpin - Destiny's Child

Fergalicious - Fergie

Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters

My People - The Presets

Omen - Prodigy (my little brother showed me this song last year and it reminds me of him)

Promises - Nero (Skrillex remix)

You drive me crazy - Britney Spears

Untouched - The Veronicas

Any chance you want to share what is on your workout playlist? Do you run and sing and air drum like me, when you are running?

Trying to remember Tuesday!

As I write this I think back the last two weeks, where something has gone wrong - I have forgotten Tuesday.  Right now, I feel pleased to say that I remember everything that went on yesterday - and I hope that by the time Friday comes around, I can look back at this post and say to myself "oh yeah, that's what I did on Tuesday!".

Work is very busy right now.  Everything feels like it is going wrong.  End of year.  Trying to hit deadlines.  Meetings.  Getting prepared for launches.  Getting prepared to have next week off.  There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day for everything right now.  I feel like I am drowning and to tell you the truth, when I come home from work, all I want to do is sit on the couch with a smoothie, watch something trashy on TV and fall asleep.

This is not like me. Something has to change!

10mins on treadmill, include 3 and upwards, speed 9 and upwards

Overhead triceps with 12kg
Alternating DB curls with 9kg
Tricep push down with 21kg
DB bench press with 10kg
Knee raises with 1 pull up to finish
200 crunches on the exercise mat

This was a pretty pathetic dinner to be honest with you.  Sainsburys basics white bread with butter, Vegemite and light cheese.  Oh how I have missed you, but oh how I don't ever want to eat you again.  I am broke, tired and overall, have not felt prepared this week.  Next week I vow to snap out of my funk!  I promise!

Also, today was a sad day.  I finally finished my vanilla PHD protein powder.  Darn.  Now I have to go and buy some more.  It was very tasty and I honestly feel like I got my money's worth.  I will write a post about where I buy my protein powder from later - thank goodness it is payday on Friday!

How are you guys feeling about the end of the year?  There is only 1month or so until Christmas - is that exciting or scary?

Monday - change of plan

Monday I was supposed to do arms and abs at the gym, however I was a little stressed out and really felt like just running on the treadmill.  I didn't realise that was going to happen until I ran past my usual 1.6km/10min limit and felt fine with it.

I didn't plan on running, I just felt like I needed to let off a little steam.

I set the incline to around 1.5-3 on the treadmill and ran anywhere between 9 and 12 for the speed.

I felt like I had run more than 5K however that is probably just because I haven't been doing much cardio lately.  My weights program doesn't suggest I do lots of cardio right now as I am trying to build muscle - but I realised today I really miss running.

Noted.  Will get into running more and start re-setting some running goals for myself.
I know I would love to run a sub 2hour half marathon and also a sub 25min 5K.

Needless to say, after my run I was sweaty and disgusting.  My hair went frizzy and my face was red for hours afterwards.  Gross.  Also, something disgusting for you to think about.... one of my toe nails had dug into the toe next to it, causing it to bleed a little.  I forgot to bring spare socks.  Ewwwww... Runner girl problems? Yeah, I got em ;)

What are your running goals?  Have you booked any races for next year?

I need to buy new clothes for Christmas...

This was my outfit for Tuesday. I love being able to wear whatever I want to work ;)  We have important visitors coming Thursday and Friday this week, so I will be trying to dress a little smarter then.  However in the meantime, I will continue to dress like I am 16.

  • Lacoste black loafers
  • Black opaque tights from Primark
  • Black shorts & leopard belt from Primark
  • Guns n Roses tee shirt from H&M
  • Black cardigan from H&M
  • Black trench from H&M
  • Blue scarf and beanie from New Looks
  • Gloves from Forever 21

Posting my outfits some of the time on here is making me realise that:
A) I need new clothes B) I need to wear more colour and C) I am lucky I do not have a corporate job.

How often to you buy clothes and actually wear them?  Do you ever buy things with good intentions and then only wear them once before giving them away?

You Da One Workout - BodyRock.Tv

Sunday around lunch time I decided to get my ass into gear with a BodyRock.Tv workout.  I chose the new You Da One Workout .  Man, I was sweating up a storm after this and my shoulders were killing me.

I do love working on my shoulders and arms though (since I aspire to have arms like Zuzana's) so I loved the burn the sandbag presses gave me.

My scores are below:

Surfer kickout:  8.5, 8, 9
Running man press:  5, 5, 5.5
Kick press right:  9, 9, 10
Kick press left:  9, 9, 10
Press jacks:  13, 14, 20
3 point abs:  13, 14, 15

Note:  I don't have a sandbag so I used my 7.5kg dumbbell.  I don't have a dip station so I used my kitchen bench

Lazy Friday

Friday turned into an unintentional rest day for me.  Work was so busy I just couldn't get away from my desk at lunch time to go to the gym.  I was pretty annoyed, however sometimes that's life and you just have to do what you have to do, right?

Since I missed lunch, I made myself some quick oats as a snack when I got home.  Any excuse to make this bad boy and I am down.

Although I was pretty stressed out when I got home, I knew that someone special was going to cheer me up :)  My sister is back in town for work and I had the pleasure of her company for a few days.

She arrived at my house around 8pm or so and as neither of us were starving for dinner  (especially since I already had a snack!).  I heated up some ravioli that I had in the freezer and covered with some light grated cheese and cracked pepper.

You know that saying, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach?  Well, the same thing applies to me.  Cheese and pepper is a winning combination in my book.

We watched the movie Never Let Me Go and it was a bit of a downer!  I actually nodded off a few times and found it a little sad for the parts that I did manage to stay awake for.  I am pretty bad with movies at the best of times though.  It only takes a few minutes before I am comfortable and then I fall asleep.

We are both excited for exercise tomorrow (running & BodyRock).  I love having my running partner back in town :)

Do you nod off when watching films at home or in the cinema? Do you miss most of the movie or just the last 10mins?
